Recently Select Surveys captured data around the local area to investigate the quality and the uses of the information collected by the latest mobile surveying innovations from Leica Geosystems. The Leica Pegasus2 is a mobile mapping solution that captures 3D point cloud and imagery from sensors attached to a vehicle. We used the system on a car to drive around the local roads however the system is scalable to suit different vehicles whether off road, on rails or even on a boat.
The system uses laser scanners and up to 8 cameras to capture 3D point clouds and imagery while travelling at normal vehicle traffic speeds. The capture process is over 50% quicker compared to traditional field survey methods and you have added benefits on the project relating to no required traffic management and improved health and safety.
The data output is survey grade accuracy, so at the centimetre level, which means the accurate combination of 3D point clouds and imagery that can be used for asset inspection and management, 3D modelling, visualisation and many other applications.
The Leica Pegasus2 can be combined with many other sensors to collect additional data for other applications such as sky cameras for city modelling, pavement assessments, ground penetrating radar for subsurface asset management and thermal sensors for energy loss detection.
